WSYR-TV is the ABC-affiliated television station for Central New York State that is licensed to Syracuse. It originally signed on the air as WNYS on VHF channel 9 on September 9,1962. Its call letters changed to WIXT in 1978,and to WSYR in 2005. It currently broadcasts a high definition digital signal on UHF channel 17 from a transmitter on Sevier Road in Pompey. The station can also be seen on Time Warner channel 9 and in high definition on digital channel 1240. Owned by Nexstar Broadcasting Group,it has studios on Bridge Street (NY 690) in East Syracuse.
