KLCC 89.7 FM is the main National Public Radio member station in Eugene,Oregon,and the southern Willamette Valley. It also operates on various other repeater frequencies at other cities in West Central Oregon. The station is licensed to Lane Community College. KLCC signed on in 1967,bringing a locally-focused noncommercial station to Eugene for the first time. Previously,KOAC in Corvallis,the flagship of Oregon Educational Broadcasting (now Oregon Public Broadcasting),had served Eugene,and still counts Eugene as part of its primary coverage area. Since KLCC's sign-on,Jefferson Public Radio and OPB have signed on stations in Eugene,making it one of the smallest markets in the nation with multiple competing NPR member stations.
