Tracking Your Brand Across Social Media with Wizikey

Picture a fintech startup that has just completed press outreach for a new savings feature. It has secured coverage in trade publications and a few founder interviews.

However, the real conversation is no longer limited to the press. It is happening on X and Instagram. It is also unfolding under YouTube explainers and in LinkedIn posts where competitors may join the discussion.

Press coverage tells you what journalists think. Social media tells you what everyone else does.

This is where social media tracking on Wizikey helps. It gives brands one place to see conversations across relevant platforms. As a result, teams no longer need to check several apps every morning.

Why Track Social Media At All

A press release or a media story is a controlled moment. What happens after it goes out is not. Customers react, competitors respond, and conversations move to platforms your PR team may not be watching closely: a complaint thread on X, a comment on a LinkedIn post, a spike in mentions after a product launch.

Without social media tracking, you may discover a problem or opportunity only after it has gained momentum. Social media tracking closes that gap. It helps you see brand conversations as they happen, rather than days later.

What This Solves For You

Social media tracking on Wizikey is built around a few recurring needs brands have:

  1. See brand mentions in real time. Wizikey brings mentions from your tracked channels into one place, so you do not need to check each platform manually.
  2. Benchmark your brand against competitors. Share of Voice shows how your presence compares with other brands in the conversation.
  3. Catching spikes early. A sudden jump in mentions, positive or negative, is easier to act on when you see it as it’s happening rather than after the fact.
  4. Measure campaigns and launches. See how people respond across platforms, rather than relying only on announcement reach.

What Data Do You Get

For the channels it tracks, Wizikey surfaces:

  1. Brand Share of Mentions, showing what portion of the total conversation belongs to your brand versus everyone else in it.
  2. Sentiment, so you know whether the conversation around a mention is positive, negative, or neutral
  3. Likes, Comments, Reshares on tracked mentions, giving a sense of engagement, not just visibility
  4. Reports, which organise social media data into structured views for stakeholders.

What Wizikey Tracks Across Social Media

Wizikey covers six channels: Broadcast, YouTube, X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Reddit. Each one shows up in the dashboard with its own Share of Voice and Mentions Feed view.

But not every platform tracks mentions the same way. Depending on the channel, Wizikey either listens for keywords or connects directly to the brand’s own account, and knowing which applies to which platform helps set expectations for what shows up.

YouTube, X (Twitter), and Reddit work off keyword tracking. Keywords can either be set up specifically for social tracking, or carried over from the ones already configured for news tracking when the project was first set up. Either way, every mention that matches those keywords across these three platforms gets picked up automatically.

Tracking Instagram and Facebook requires linking the brand’s own Instagram business account to Wizikey, and this is available for the primary brand. Once linked, Wizikey tracks posts from the account’s Mentioned tab, the section on an Instagram/Facebook business profile that shows posts where the account has been tagged or mentioned by others. Alongside this, 15+ hashtags tied to the brand itself are also tracked, so any post carrying one of those brand-associated hashtags gets picked up too.

Wizikey brings your brand’s LinkedIn data together with the rest of your channels, so you’re seeing all of it in one single view.

Broadcast is also available as a channel, giving brands visibility into their presence there alongside the rest of their social tracking.

How Alerts Work For Social Media

Wizikey’s alert system isn’t limited to news coverage; the same framework applies to the social channels you’re tracking too. Alerts fall into two categories: Trends Alert and Report Alert.

Trends Alert covers individual mentions, either on a schedule or the moment something happens. Regular alerts (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) send a digest of your social mentions at a time you choose, so you’re not manually checking each platform yourself. Real-time alerts skip the schedule altogether: instead of waiting for a digest, you set a Spike in Mentions threshold (say, when today’s mention volume crosses a multiple of your recent daily average), and you’re notified the moment that threshold is crossed, whether the spike shows up on X, Instagram, or any other channel you’re tracking. Sentiment and SOV Change alerts work the same way: triggered by a shift, not a fixed time.

Report Alert works differently. Instead of individual mentions, it delivers a polished report as a PDF, built around what you actually need to show, whether that’s your own brand’s coverage or how you compare against competitors.

Set once, alerts keep running in the background, so a spike in mentions or a sudden shift in sentiment reaches you the moment it happens, instead of you having to go looking for it. For a closer look at setting these up, see how to set up Wizikey Alerts.

Social Media In Your Reports

Reports aren’t limited to news coverage either. When you set up a report, platform-specific sections let your social data show up alongside the rest of your brand’s coverage, so a single report can reflect the full picture, not just what ran in the press.

This means the same report you’re already sending to leadership or stakeholders can carry your social performance too, without you having to compile it separately.

Social media moves faster than a press cycle, and it doesn’t wait for a scheduled check-in. With every platform tracked in one place, data that’s easy to act on, and alerts that reach you the moment something changes, you get to spend less time watching for the next mention and more time deciding what to do about it.
